GIST makes people rise
GIST believes in the power of baking to change lives. By training people in Africa to become bakers, we give them the opportunity for employment, income and an independent livelihood. A loaf of bread is not just food – it is a source of dignity, pride and future.
Our goal
GIST aims to help at least 1,000 people find a future in the baking industry over the next five years. We focus on projects that contribute to:
- Baker training
- Employment and entrepreneurship
- Structural poverty reduction
- Local food supply
We support initiatives that are sustainable and enable people to build on their own – without continued dependence on donations.
Our Target Group
GIST primarily supports non-profit organizations and social enterprises operating locally in Africa within the bakery sector. Examples include:
- Trade schools and training centers
- Social enterprises focused on vulnerable groups (such as youth, women or people with disabilities)
- Local initiatives that promote employment and self-employment through the baking trade
We seek partnerships with organizations that make a difference locally and have an eye for sustainable impact.
The board
The board of GIST consists of members of the Pater family, proud owners of Royal Amarant Bakers. With their passion for the profession as well as their social commitment, they want to give something lasting back.
The board is composed as follows:
– president: Kiki Pater
– treasurer: Renee Pater
– secretary: Max Pater
We have ANBI status
GIST is recognized as a Public Benefit Organization (ANBI) in the Netherlands, which allows donations to be tax-deductible.
Policy Plan
Of course, the foundation has a policy plan. This includes our careful handling of the income we acquire. Click here to see the full policy plan.
